Montgomery County police are asking the public’s help in identifying a woman in a surveillance video that police say show her using a stolen credit card.

About noon June 5, a woman was dining at La Madeleine Country French Café restaurant at 7607 Old Georgetown Road in Bethesda when her wallet was stolen from her purse, according to a police statement. The victim’s bank later notified her that there had been an attempt to fraudulently use her credit cards at the Target store at 5700 Bou Ave. in Rockville.

Police also learned that about 6:30 p.m. June 14, a second woman was eating at the Panera restaurant at 1780 E. Jefferson St., Rockville, when three credit cards were stolen from her purse. Her bank later notified her that her credit cards were used in attempts to buy merchandise fraudulently at a Target store and a Walmart Supercenter store, both on Frederick Road in Germantown. One purchase was successful, according to the police statement.

Anyone with information about the suspect is asked to call the Rockville District Patrol Investigations Unit at 240.773.6070, the Bethesda District Patrol Investigations Unit at 240.773.6729, or Crime Solvers of Montgomery County toll-free at 1-866-411-TIPS (8477). Crime Solvers will pay a cash reward of up to $10,000 for information provided to them that leads to an arrest in this case. To be eligible for a reward, tipsters must call Crime Solvers. Callers may remain anonymous.

The Department urges residents to follow these tips to help prevent having their purse and/or wallet stolen:

  • Carry your purse as close to your body as possible and keep it in sight at all times.
  • Carry your wallet in an inside coat or front pants pocket.
  • Do not become distracted. Stay alert and be aware of your surroundings at all times.
