Police Arrest Silver Spring Man for Burtonsville Homicide

Lloyd Patrick Walters | MCPD

A 51-year-old Silver Spring man faces first-degree murder charges in the Sept. 6 death of 63-year-old Todd Mcdonough Pruitt, according to a Montgomery County police statement.

Lloyd Patrick Walters of Bradbury Manor Court is being held without bail in the Montgomery County Detention Center, according to online court records.

Walters also was charged with using a firearm in the commission of a violent crime, police said.

About 9 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 6, Walters entered the lobby of the Silver Spring District police station, at 1002 Milestone Drive, Silver Spring, suffering from what appeared to be a gunshot wound to the abdomen, police said.

Officers began to administer first aid and called for Fire and Rescue services to respond to the police station, police said.

Walters said he had shot a man in a trailer and provided officers with a description of the area where the trailer was located, police said.

Walters was taken to a local hospital for treatment of life-threatening injuries, police said.

Officers immediately went to the area where Walters said the shooting had occurred, the 14000 block of Old Columbia Pike, and found a recreational vehicle parked on the property, police said.

In the RV, officers found a dead man, identified as Pruitt, with multiple gunshot wounds, police said.

The body was taken to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Baltimore for an autopsy, police said. The Medical Examiner ruled the manner of death a homicide and the cause of death as multiple gunshot wounds, police said.

Walters was arrested on the strength of a criminal warrant on Friday, and was taken to the Central Processing Unit.

Detectives have determined that the encounter between Walters and the victim was not a random event, police said.

This homicide remains under investigation and no additional details will be released at this time, police said. Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call the Major Crimes Division at 240-773-5070.
