Police Arrest a Juvenile For Garage Burglary & Thefts from Vehicles

Rockville City Police arrested a juvenile on Dec. 17 and charged him with burglary and theft.

According to police, a resident of Henslowe Drive called police to report that someone entered his garage and stole items from a vehicle parked inside.

Police say the resident arrived home and noticed an individual walking away from his house. As the resident entered his garage, he noticed that a car door was open. He then got into his car and while driving on Halesworth Drive, the resident noticed the same individual he had seen in front of his house. Upon seeing the resident, the individual immediately ran.

According to police, as officers from the Rockville City Police Department searched for the subject, additional residents on Halesworth Drive reported that items had been stolen from their vehicles.

Officers from the Street Crimes Unit noticed an individual matching the description provided by the Henslowe Drive resident. When officers attempted to speak to the individual, he ran. The individual was quickly apprehended and positively identified by the Henslowe Drive resident. Property stolen from vehicles on Halesworth Drive was located in the juvenile’s possession.

The 16-year-old was charged with one count of second-degree burglary, one count of fourth-degree burglary, one count of theft over $1,000, one count of theft under $100, and one count of rogue and vagabond.

“This is another excellent example of citizens being very aware of what goes on in their community and immediately reporting any suspicious activity to the police,”

Rockville Police Chief Terrance N. Treschuk said.

Anyone with information about this incident, or the juvenile involved, is asked to call the Rockville City Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Unit at 240.314.8938.
