Police Arrest 2 for Bethesda Mall Shooting

Two men — neither of whom have a confirmed address — have been charged in connection with a March 9 shooting in the parking lot of the Westfield Montgomery mall in Bethesda, a Montgomery County police statement said.

David Orlando Montalvo, 23, and Lucas Austin Graves, 28, face attempted murder and assault charges as well as using a firearm in the commission of a felony, police said.

About 7 p.m. Friday, March 9, Bethesda police district officers responded to the mall, on Democracy Boulevard, for the report of shots fired, police said.

Officers found shell casings and parked vehicles that had been struck by bullets, police said. No victims were located at the time.

Detectives learned that two groups of two men each were arguing, which led to one pair, later identified as Montalvo and Graves, firing at the other pair, police said. All four then fled.

Investigators obtained an arrest warrant for Graves, charging him with two counts of attempted murder, two counts of first-degree assault, reckless endangerment and the use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, police said. On April 11, Graves was arrested, police said.

On April 12, investigators obtained an arrest warrant for Montalvo charging him with two counts of attempted murder, two counts of first-degree assault, reckless endangerment, and the use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, police said. On April 18, Montalvo was arrested, police said.

Both men are being held without bail, police said.
