Pit Bull Attack in Gaithersburg
The Montgomery County Police Department’s Animal Services Division is investigating a pit bull attack that occurred on June 19 at 6:42 p.m. in the 1800 block of Driftwood Court in Gaithersburg.
According to Jeanette Wright, field services supervisor with the Montgomery County police department, an unleashed pit bull, named Lust, killed a bichon frise named Ali. Wright did not have information about the age or weight of either of the dogs.
The pit bull was being watched by the owner’s brother and had its current rabies vaccination, according to Wright. She said the pit bull is now being quarantined for ten days per Maryland state law and she said the dog will be declared “potentially dangerous.” According to Wright, that designation means when the pit bull is off its owner’s property it will have to be muzzled. She said the owner of the pit bull will also be issued two citations: the first civil citation will be for unwanted contact, a $500 fine, and the second citation is for running-at-large, a $100 fine.
Wright said the pit bull will be released back to its owner on June 30.
