Photography Exhibit at Kentlands Mansion (Photos)

The city of Gaithersburg presents an exhibit featuring the photography of Christine Darton, Terry Pellmar and Elsie Weinstein at the Kentlands Mansion now through August 8.

Christine Darton moved from San Diego to the community of Quince Orchard Park a few years ago and was immediately captivated by the beauty of the area and began taking her camera along on her daily walks. A first time exhibitor in Gaithersburg, the theme for her exhibit is Seasons in Quince Orchard Park. The photos were chosen to celebrate the natural beauty of her neighborhood. Darton takes pleasure in being a tourist and says she intends to remain one the rest of her life. She takes photos of anything that catches her eye. Terry Pellmar is a Maryland-based digital artist striving to capture the magic of the world around her. Her artistic creativity blossomed after her retirement from a career in science. Whether she is walking in the local park or traveling the world, taking in a mountain view, a flower detail, or a moment in a life – Pellmar captures the scene with her camera. It is through her artwork that she reveals her vision. Digital paint brushes, filters and textures are the primary tools she uses to transform the original picture and create a work that conveys her enchantment. Pellmar sometimes creates mixed-media pieces using acrylics and/or pastels to enhance the printed image. She shows her award-winning work in a variety of venues in the Washington D.C. metropolitan area, including juried and solo exhibitions. Elsie Weinstein, for as long as she could remember, would see things and thought what beautiful photos they would make. Weinstein photographed when and where she could. Despite having won several prizes and recognition for her photographs, she put down her camera and let it collect dust for many years. When she picked it up again her family and friends encouraged her to follow the dream that has been with her all her life, traveling and taking photographs. Weinstein’s mother always believed in her, her talents and dreams, even when she herself did not. It is in her mother’s honor that she has created Sandy’s Girl Photography and began to pursue her passion.
