Perry Hall Defeats Gaithersburg 85-62 in 4A Boys MPSSAA Semifinal at Xfinity Center

College Park Maryland Xfinity Center Thursday March 8, 2018

Gaithersburg’s outstanding season came to an end with their loss to defending MD 4A State Champions Perry Hall.  The Trojans had a successful season because the goal of any basketball program is to get to College Park and play for a championship.  As I watched the game it was apparent to me, as well as other former colleagues and observers, Perry Hall was just “too big” for the players of Gaithersburg.  However, that fact did not keep the Trojans from playing hard all four quarters.  They left nothing on the floor, they should be proud of their effort.  The cliche in sports is “it is not how big you are, it is how big you play,” and on this stage Gaithersburg did all it could to live up to that saying.

The most interesting aspect of the scoring breakdown for Gaithersburg was that 42 of the Trojan points of their 62 came from underclassmen.  Also 32 of the 62 came from freshman guards #23 Jordan Hawkins and #25 Jao Ituka, which says to me Gaithersburg will be a team to watch in 2018-2019.
