Pepco Warns Customers About Scam
Pepco is warning its customers about a scam involving prepaid “Green Dot MoneyPak” card. Callers claiming to represent Pepco are contacting customers telling them their electric service is scheduled to be shut off and they should make a payment by purchasing one of these cards.
Pepco reminds home and business owners to practice safety when someone claiming to represent a business contacts them either in person or by telephone.

Thank you for this warning. On a Saturday afternoon, I received a phone call from some one saying that they are calling from Pepco and that on that afternoon someone is coming to interrupt service because there is problem with the electricity reading. He said that we have to buy a Greet Dot Money Pak or they need to come to suspend electricity for a few hours. I immediately noticed that it was very odd to receive such a call on a Saturday afternoon from Pepco, what he was saying did not sound true 100%, however, he sounded pretty convincing and people can fall for it. I don’t know how they do it, but the caller ID is the number from Pepco a 202-… number. I wasn’t quick enough to ask him for our Account number. Thankfully, i looked it up online to learn that this was a SCAM call. Beware! I wish there were stricter sanctions for this type of people who steal from those who fall on their scams.
