Pepco Requests Customers to Conserve Energy Oct. 20

Image of Pepco truck door with Pepco logoPepco is calling for a conservation period from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. today, for Pepco’s Maryland customers, and for Pepco’s Maryland and District of Columbia customers participating in Energy Wise Rewards.

Pepco’s Maryland customers are eligible to participate in the Peak Energy Savings Credit program. This means that Pepco will cycle the participants’ air conditioner compressors off and on for short intervals during these hours. Because the air conditioner fans will continue to run, most customers will not notice a temperature change in their home and those who do should experience only a 1-to 3-degree change.

Customers who reduce energy use below their specified baseline during the specific hours of the Peak Savings Day can receive a credit of $1.25 off their bill for every kilowatt hour (kWh) of reduced usage, through the Peak Energy Savings Credit program. It may take up to a half-hour after the event ends at 2 p.m. for air conditioners to resume normal operations.

Pepco Maryland customers will automatically receive a phone call giving the hours to reduce energy use. Customers can also choose to be notified by email or text.

Peak Energy Savings Credit and Energy Wise Rewards are voluntary programs. Customers can learn more about Peak Energy Savings Credit by calling 1.855.730-PEAK or visit the Pepco website. To learn more about Energy Wise Rewards call 1.866.353.5798 or visit Pepco rewards website.
