Pepco announced the appointment of Marc Battle as the new vice president, Pepco Region, for the District of Columbia Dec. 12. Most recently, Battle was associate general counsel for Pepco Holdings Inc., where he represented Pepco before the Public Service Commission of the District of Columbia in a wide variety of matters including general rate proceedings.

In his new role, Battle will be responsible for managing stakeholder relations with District officials; community leaders; and business, consumer and nonprofit organizations within the Pepco region.

“Marc’s skills and experience will enable him to help shape policy and manage issues in a way that will bring value to our Pepco customers,” said Donna Cooper, president, Pepco Region. “He’ll play a key role in helping to ensure we meet our responsibilities as a reliable deliverer of electricity while maintaining the highest standards of safety, integrity and civic responsibility.”

Battle previously served as a senior counsel and communications director on Capitol Hill and later as counsel to the Committee on Government Operations for the Council of the District of Columbia.

After practicing law in the federal and local government, Battle joined the law firm of Fried Frank Harris Shriver & Jacobson LLP in its New York office, where he focused primarily on securities litigation. He later transitioned to the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund, also in New York, where he worked on civil rights matters nationwide involving education and voting rights. While working in New York and living in New Jersey, Battle became the first African-American ever elected to the City Council in Haledon, N.J.

Battle earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of the District of Columbia and a Juris Doctor from the Howard University School of Law.
