Pepco Construction Will Disrupt Traffic on Randolph Road in Rockville Later This Month

Construction for a new Pepco substation will cause major traffic disruptions on part of Randolph Road in Rockville beginning later this month.

Per a press release from the county, the construction will extend from Parklawn Drive to Nebel Street. Work is slated to start the week of Aug. 30, spokespeople from Pepco and the County Department of Transportation (MCDOT) confirmed to MyMCM Tuesday. It was originally announced to begin Monday.

MCDOT and Pepco worked on a traffic control plan to allow eastbound traffic only on Randolph Road and detour westbound traffic to Parklawn Drive toward Rockville Pike. Sidewalks on Randolph Road will stay open to pedestrians.

The project is expected to last about six months into early 2022, however issues like weather could extend that time frame.

The county said drivers who take Randolph Road in Rockville may want to find other routes.
