Pedestrian Killed on University Boulevard in Takoma Park

Updated at 3 p.m. Aug. 24

Police have identified the pedestrian who was struck on University Boulevard East and Merrimac Drive in Takoma Park. Roberto Cardenas Martinez, who is believed to be about 42 years old and possibly born in San Pedro, Oacaca, was killed Aug. 23.

Detectives have not yet located his family and are seeking any information that would help find them. Anyone with information should call 301-297-8000.

A pedestrian died after being struck on University Boulevard at Merrimac Drive in Takoma Park early Monday morning.

The fatality occurred at about 2 a.m. The driver remained at the scene. According to police, it is unknown why the pedestrian was in the street.

Montgomery County Police Collision Reconstruction Unit is investigating.

This story will be updated when Takoma Park police has more information, and the pedestrian’s next of kin has been notified.
