Police Investigate Pedestrian Accident in Wheaton

Montgomery County police are investigating a serious collision involving a pedestrian and a Ride-On bus that occurred this morning (April 29) in Wheaton.
It happened at 5:09 a.m. at the intersection of Randolph Road and Middlevale Lane.
According to the police investigation, the pedestrian was crossing the westbound lanes of Randolph Road. Police said the Ride-On bus was traveling on westbound Randolph Road in the curb lane of the roadway when the bus struck the pedestrian. Police said it is still under investigation whether the pedestrian was crossing the roadway in the crosswalk.
Police have identified the pedestrian as Tsehay Demeke Woldemanuel, age 34, of the 1500 block of Billman Lane in Silver Spring. Woldemanuel was transported to Suburban Hospital with life-threatening injuries.
The driver of the Ride-On bus has been identified by police as Edward Donald Mericle, age 59, of the 12500 block of Lime Kiln Road in Fulton, Maryland. The bus driver was not injured.

Fire Rescue Spokesperson Pete Piringer reports on his Twitter account that a priority one patient was transported to the hospital with life threatening injuries.
The accident investigation has closed westbound Randolph Road between Trovili Lake Drive and Middlevale Road. Motorists are advised to avoid the area.
