Peace Picnic

Ingleside at King FarmAs Ingleside at King Farm moves toward becoming the nation’s first large certified Peace Community, the retirement community is holding a Peace Picnic Party at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 21.

Residents will write potential peace projects on a long sheet of linen during the event sponsored by Ingleside at King Farm and the Mattie JT Stepanek Foundation.

Peace Certification is available to individuals and organizations who want to be agents of lasting and good change for the world. The Mattie JT Stepanek Foundation was founded in honor of Mattie Stepanek, the 13-year-old best-selling poet who died in 2004 from a rare form of muscular dystrophy.

Jeni Stepanek, Mattie’s mother, spoke at Ingleside at King Farm last month to help launch the retirement community’s quest to become a Peace Community.

“There’s been a strong response to Jeni Stepanek’s talk about her son Mattie and his vision for a more peaceful world,” says Richard Thayer, Chaplain at Ingleside at King Farm. “We have accepted Mattie’s invitation to become ‘peace bringers.’”
