Panhandling and the Pope: Montgomery Policy Vs. Papal Opinion (VIDEO)

Montgomery County has waged an effort to encourage residents to stop giving donations to panhandlers. In 2013, the county launched “Give a Hand Up, Not a Hand Out,” which called on people to text donations to charities rather than to give cash to peddlers.

Pope Francis, however, has other ideas. The New York Times, in an editorial, described the pope’s position as: Give without worry.

We asked Councilmember George Leventhal his thoughts on the pope’s remarks.
