Paint Branch Student Shot in Burtonsville, Police Say

Silver Spring police district officers are investigating a shooting that occurred Monday morning in Burtonsville, a Montgomery County police statement said.

Investigators believe that this was not a random event and the perpetrators and the victim may have had some prior association, police said.

About 8:50 a.m. Monday, Silver Spring officers responded to the Burtonsville Volunteer Fire Station at 13900 Old Columbia Pike for the report of a 17-year-old male who walked into the fire station and reported he had been shot, police said.

The victim was taken to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

A student at Paint Branch High School, the victim told investigators that he had been at the high school at 14121 Old Columbia Pike but left the school to go to a nearby convenience store, police said.

The victim was walking back to the school when he heard a gunshot and realized that he had been struck, police said.

Detectives determined that the victim’s cheek and ear had been grazed by a bullet, police said.

This shooting remains an open investigation and detectives are working to confirm other details.  Those details will be released once they have been confirmed, police said.
