Ortman-Fouse to Use Public Election Fund
School board member Jill Ortman-Fouse, who on Friday announced she was giving up that seat to run for an at-large seat on the Montgomery County Council, said she planned to use the public election fund to finance her campaign.
“I do believe I have a pretty large network of people who have seen my work. And believe in my vision and want to support me,” Ortman-Fouse, a Democrat, said Sunday.
“My goal isn’t isn’t to get a big amount of money from a small amount of people. It’s to get as many people on board as possible,” she said.
On Friday, she announced on Facebook that she was withdrawing from the school board race in favor of John Robertson, Roberto Clemente Middle School assistant principal.
“I’m going to step out of the race because I’m confident John would be a great addition to the team, and I can’t wait for you to learn more about him,” she wrote on Facebook.
On Sunday, Ortman-Fouse said she expected other people to jump into the school board race.
“There are other really good people in this county,” she said. They were waiting to see what she would do, and they didn’t want to run against her, she said.
Ortman-Fouse enters a crowded Democratic field for four at-large council positions. On Sunday evening, the Maryland State Board of Elections listed 30 candidates for the positions.
She said she knew had lots of work to do in a short amount of time. The filing deadline for the June 26 primary is Tuesday.
“I need to get a ‘donate’ button,” she quipped.
