Original Urban Bar-B-Que in Rockville Closes

The original Urban Bar-B-Que closed permanently Sunday.

The restaurant at Chapman Avenue in Rockville has been open for more than 17 years.

“We raised our children in this store, we partnered with numerous schools, churches and charities at this store, we have forged life-long friendships at this store,” the Calkins and Howard families posted on Facebook.

David Calkins and Lee Howard own the restaurant.

“They say nothing lasts forever, that isn’t entirely true. We have all the wonderful memories we made in between our very first day (we probably served 10 people), right down to our very last order of Soul Rolls,” the two families posted.

Soul rolls are “bar-b-q egg rolls with chopped brisket, onions and cheese served with “Redneck Fonue” for dipping.

The restaurant also is known for its $5 taco deal on Mondays and 75-cent wings on Thursdays.

The Urban Bar-B-Que in the Rock Creek Village Shopping Center on Norbeck Road in Rockville still is open.
