Organizers Gear Up for 19th Annual ‘Taste of Wheaton’
From Thai food to Latin food, the annual “Taste of Wheaton” festival brings local diverse restaurants together for a day planned to introduce customers to new area restaurants.
The 19th annual “Taste of Wheaton” takes place Sunday (June 8) from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the Wheaton Triangle at the corner of Grandview and Reedie Drive, one block north of the Wheaton Metro Station.
“The ‘taste’ highlights some of the great local restaurants in downtown Wheaton,” said Sidney Cooper, manager of marketing and events for the Wheaton Urban District. “Like all of our events, our effort is to expose people to Wheaton who are not familiar with, or haven’t been to the area in a while,” she said.
Tastings range from $1 to $5 and will be offered from the close to 20 restaurants who have registered to participate in the festival.
One addition to the event this year is that the food and wine tasting area will feature parings of food items from Safeway along with wines chosen for the food and the event.
“Our hope is that they will explore and find something new, or rediscover a place they haven’t been to in a while,” Cooper said.
Confirmed restaurants include the Limerick Pub, Hollywood East Cafe, Los Cobanos, Marchone’s Italian Deli, Green Plate Catering, Thai Taste by Kob, Ledo Pizza, IHOP, Saigonese Restaurant, Moby Dick Sushi, Little Caesars Pizza, Starbucks, Ming Tree, Pollo Campero, Umberto’s Restaurant, Pollo Sabroso and Ana G. Mendez University Culinary School.
The festival also includes cooking demonstrations sponsored by Yelp featuring local chefs from Thai Taste by Kob, Green Plate Catering and Ana G. Mendez Culinary School.
Live performances from Soul Crackers, King Teddy, Secret Society, Orquesta la Romana, Wheaton Studio of Dance, Urban Artistry, Titanes Salseros and Roda Movements will take the stage throughout the day.
One-hundred percent of the proceeds will benefit the Mid-County United Ministries.

I hate that the Taste of Wheaton as the same day as the Takoma Park Jazz fest. It didn’t use to be. It was always in May.
