UPDATED: Man Killed in Dickerson Accident During Thunderstorm
Strong storms that swept through Montgomery County on Tuesday night appear to be the cause behind a single car fatal accident in Dickerson.
According to Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services Spokesperson Pete Piringer, it appears a vehicle hit a downed tree and power lines fell onto the vehicle on Darnestown Road near Cattail Road.
That road was closed as Montgomery County Police investigated the accident.
According to police, the driver, Elmer Henry Froelich, Jr., 79, of the 19500 block of Jerusalem Church Road in Poolesville, was the only occupant in the 2003 Chevrolet S-10 pickup truck.
Police said the pickup truck hit a downed tree around 8:30 p.m. Froelich was pronounced deceased at the scene.
