One Dead After Two-Vehicle Collision in Gaithersburg

Montgomery County Police Department is currently investigating a two-vehicle collision that left one dead in Gaithersburg early Sunday morning.

According to police, at around 5:50 a.m., a Montgomery County police officer on his way to work came across the collision at the intersection of Clopper Road and Orchard Hills Drive.

A preliminary investigation has determined that one victim, Emil William Cosbert of Gaithersburg, was on the wrong side of the road heading west on Clopper Road. Cosbert’s 2018 Chevrolet Malibu crossed the center line near Orchard Hills Drive, which led to the collision of a 2018 Nissan Sentra. The driver of the Sentra has been identified as Juliette Marie Simon Dauz of Cheltenham, Maryland.

Cosbert was pronounced dead at the scene after succumbing to his injuries. Dauz was transported to a local hospital with non life-threatening injuries.

The Collision Reconstruction Unit (CRU) is currently investigating any motives behind the collision. Anyone with information about this collision can contact CRU detectives at 240-773-6620.

Clopper Road was closed between W. Watkins Road and Longdraft Road for three hours due to the investigation before reopening to traffic.
