Olney’s Strawberry Festival (Photo)

The 32nd Annual Strawberry Festival was held on June 1 at the Sandy Spring Museum, 17901 Bentley Road. More than 3,000 visitors enjoyed the strawberry shortcake prepared by the numerous volunteers. The strawberries were grown by the Hollabaugh Brothers Fruit Farm & Market, Biglerville, Pennsylvania. Numerous events kept everyone busy during the afternoon including live music.

Popular activities at the festival were pony rides, petting zoo, new kids games and many great craft vendors.

A $5 raffle was held with gifts donated by local businesses and patrons. Irene Cady Harris won a gas grill donated by Christopher’s Hardware, Bill Boffaggi won a gift certificate to the Stained Glass Pub, Judith Hernandez won an iPad Mini, and Joline Froch won a hand-made quilt by Lauren Kingsland.

Plan on visiting the Sandy Spring Museum on June 30 from 12 to 4 p.m. for the next event Re-Inventing the Wheel. The event features an opportunity to roll up your sleeves and explore how old and new technology can generate something completely new. Activities include many ways to stretch your brain. Grown-ups and kids alike will be inspired to meet and watch digital artists and techies at work and participate in building a giant marble run out of recycled materials. The event is co-sponsored by KID Museum. Other participating organizations include NASA, FutureMakers, Rockville Science Center, Pyramid Atlantic, the Montgomery County Collaboration Council and Maryland Out of school Time Network.
