Officers Who Rescued Man from Burning Car to Receive Medal of Valor (VIDEO)

Two officers who rescued an unconscious man from a burning vehicle on the beltway will receive the medal of valor today at an event hosted by the Montgomery County Chamber of Commerce (MCCC). Montgomery County Police Officers Cody Fields and Brian Nesbitt responded to a car on fire around midnight on September 1, 2015 according to police.

When the officers arrived on the scene they observed that the interior of the car was filled with smoke. Officer Fields broke through the passenger side window to reach the driver and Officer Nesbitt helped him carry the driver to safety.

Both officers will be honored at the 42nd Annual Public Safety Awards hosted by the MCCC on Friday, March 11.

According to the MCCC, the Gold Medal of Valor award recognizes an act of bravery involving extreme personal risk that goes above and beyond the call of duty or an incident of valor that results in serious injury or death.

Typically, only one Gold Medal of Valor is awarded each year. Take a look at the dash cam video of the rescue below.
