Officers Locate Missing Montgomery Village Woman
A missing 78-year-old Montgomery Village woman was found unharmed Saturday lying in a rocky ravine about 200 yards from her home, Montgomery County police said in a Facebook post.
The woman, whose name was not included in the post, had left her home sometime during the night wearing only a nightgown, socks and a red wool hat, police said. She had been showing signs of dementia, police said.
The woman’s daughter had awoken in the morning to find the home’s front door open and her mother gone, police said. Police arrived about 8:49 a.m.
The first officers distributed a photo of the missing woman to officers in the area via in-car computers and officers immediately began to search for the missing woman, police said. A K-9 team was called to the area to assist.
A Public Information Officer began to prepare social media posts asking for the public’s assistance in finding the woman.
About 10:34 a.m., Officer Laura Blankman found the woman lying in a rocky ravine in a wooded area with limited access behind the 19000 block of Capehart Drive.
Fire & Rescue services and officers assisted with helping her to safety and she was taken to a local hospital for a check-up.
