NWS Issues Severe Thunderstorm & Flash Flood Warnings

UPDATED at 6:50 p.m. The National Weather Service has issued a severe thunderstorm warning for Montgomery County.
According to an Alert Gaithersburg message, significant cloud to ground lightning may be occurring with this storm. Outdoor activities should be postponed until the storm passes.

The National Weather Service has issued a severe thunderstorm watch for Montgomery County until 9 p.m. on Sept. 6.
The primary threat with these storms could include heavy rain, large hail, lightning and isolated tornadoes. Those with outdoor plans should monitor the skies and be prepared for threatening weather.
Fire and Rescue Spokesperson Pete Piringer noted on his Twitter account that temperatures are in the 90s this afternoon and the heat index is near 100 degrees.
