NWS Issues Severe Thunderstorm Warning

UPDATED 5/23 at 11 p.m.
The National Weather Service has issued a severe thunderstorm warning for Montgomery County. Significant cloud to ground lightning is occurring with this storm. Outdoor activities should be postponed until this storm passes.

The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a flash flood warning for central Montgomery County and northwestern Howard County until 9:30 p.m. on May 23.

According to NWS, doppler radar indicates heavy rain capable of producing flash flooding continuing mainly along and learn a line from Clarksburg to Damascus to Lisbon. Radar estimates that two to three inches of rain has fallen in
the last hour.

Residents should expect extremely heavy rain that will flood low lying areas, and streets with slow drainage. Do not try to cross flooded roads. Flooded areas may be harder to identify at night. Use caution while driving.
