a care is at home of elderlyCounty officials recognize the important role that family caregivers play in their families and communities. November is National Family Caregivers Month and it is estimated that nearly 200,000 individuals in Montgomery County provide care for a chronically ill or disabled family member or friend. Without public recognition, many committed adults perform complex medical and nursing tasks such as managing medications, providing wound care and operating specialized medical equipment.

The role of caregiving is vitally important in our community and yet the role of caregivers often goes unnoticed. The role of caregivers is a crucial part of our health care system and we take this opportunity to recognize the efforts of these individuals and families,” said County Executive Isiah Leggett.

Montgomery County residents are encouraged to reach out to family caregivers in their communities and to show appreciation for their efforts. Small acts of kindness, such as saying thank you, bringing a surprise gift of flowers, offering to make dinner or paying a social visit can help show caregivers that their efforts are appreciated.
