Not Your Average Joe’s World Taste Tour

Steve Silverstein, founder and CEO of Not Your Average Joe’s restaurants, recently kicked off thee restaurant’s World Taste Tour by explaining its genesis. “The greatest joy of travel for restaurant people is exploring foods from faraway places,” he said. “Our chefs love not only experiencing international dishes but also bringing back recipes and ideas to adapt in our kitchens.” The event that runs through March 31 features the results of those culinary scavenger hunts: a menu of chef’s specials that pays homage to taste traditions from the four corners of the world.

“Gaithersburg is home to a lot of seasoned travelers. We think our World Taste Tour dishes will bring back memories of places they’ve visited,” adds Erik Larson, General Manager at the Gaithersburg Not Your Average Joe’s. “At the same time, we hope they’ll recognize the creativity and innovation our chef brings to each dish.”

Offerings include an appetizer that gives a new twist to steamed North Atlantic mussels by infusing them with Thai flavors such as ginger, chilies, coconut milk and hoisin. Main courses vary from flounder meuniére, a variation on the classic French recipe, to Cypriot-style lamb kabobs with a curried Ziziki sauce to an Austrian-themed schnitzel and crisp potato kugel. Italy is well represented by the Leaning Tower of Chicken Parmesan and the much-beloved Italian dessert, tiramisu.

Liquid refreshments are very much a part of the World Taste Tour, as demonstrated by a Peruvian pisco punch, featuring the popular South American spirit with agave nectar and pineapple. The selection of beers includes imports from Japan, Italy, Ireland, Mexico and the Czech Republic.

Silverstein added a final note: “I hope the World Taste Tour lets our new neighbors in Gaithersburg know that we’d go to the ends of the earth to please them. Literally.“
