North Potomac Recreation Center Groundbreaking (Photos & Video)
Montgomery County Executive Isiah Leggett, Councilmembers Phil Andrews and Nancy Floreen, and Delegate Aruna Miller took part in a June 14th groundbreaking ceremony for the North Potomac Community Recreation Center located at 13860 Travilah Road.
“I am very pleased that we are breaking ground and commencing construction on this new center that will provide a variety of recreational activities for our residents,” said Leggett. “And, I am particularly proud of the fact that this groundbreaking marks the sixth recreation facility project in the last four years.”
This project provides for the design of a 48,084 square-foot community recreation center and associated site of approximately 17 acres. The building will include a full-size and auxiliary gymnasium, weight/exercise room, social hall, kitchen, senior/community lounge, arts/kiln room, game room and conference room. The outdoor features will include a playground, synthetic multiple play area, a rectangular multi-purpose field, and two multi-purpose courts. The facility will be designed to comply with Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) guidelines for LEED Silver certification. The project is expected to be completed in winter 2016.
“The residents of North Potomac have looked forward to this groundbreaking and the Recreation Department is enthusiastic about working collaboratively with the community to develop quality recreation programming and services for the North Potomac Community Recreation Center,” said Recreation Department Director Gabe Albornoz.
“This new recreation center furthers our commitment to build environmentally sensitive buildings that complement their surroundings and serve the residents of Montgomery County well,” said General Services Director David Dise. “This will be a facility the community is proud to live near and will enjoy for years to come.”
The construction contractor for the center is Dustin Construction, Inc. and the architect is Grimm and Parker.

Definitely looking forward to its grand opening. Will the community center be offering any classes? How will we know? We live within a mile of the facility. Will there be room for a swimming pool in the future?
