(UPDATED) NIST Building Evacuated for Hazmat Incident
UPDATED, May 5, 11:15 a.m.- HazMat teams are now using a robot to assist with the containment of hazardous chemicals in a lab on the campus of the National Institute of Standards and Technology campus in Gaithersburg.

ORIGINAL – A building on the National Institute of Standards and Technology campus in Gaithersburg was evacuated Tuesday morning after a chemical hazard was reported in one of the labs. Montgomery County Fire and Rescue HazMat units were on the scene about 8:45 a.m. MCFRS spokesperson Pete Piringer reported the incident is contained to one lab and the building was evacuated as a precaution.
