New Year’s Day Babies (Photos)

UPDATED

Talk about timing: the first baby of the new year was born exactly at midnight at Holy Cross Hospital in Silver Spring on January 1.

The baby girl, named Brianna, weighed seven pounds and six ounces and is her family’s third child. Both mom and baby are doing well.

A couple of hours later, doctors at Shady Grove Adventist Hospital delivered the first baby of the new year at 2:43 a.m. on Jan. 1.

The baby, a healthy girl named Hana, weighed in at six pounds and six ounces.

A hospital spokesperson said both mom and baby, Germantown residents, are resting and doing well.

Several hours later, Washington Adventist Hospital welcomed its first baby of 2013 at 7:52 a.m. on Jan. 1.

The baby, also a girl, weighed in at six pounds and 13 ounces.

Before they check out, hospital officials at Shady Grove and Washington Adventist hospitals will present both moms with a gift basket of baby essentials.

The gift baskets are put together by hospital nurses in Labor and Delivery and the Mother/Baby unit and include handmade towels, blankets, hats, booties and other baby essentials to commemorate the first birth of the year at the hospitals.
