New Summer Program Allows MCPS Students to Explore Careers Before College (VIDEO)
Some high school students will now have the chance to explore careers and get paid for it thanks to a new summer program announced by WorkSource Montgomery on Tuesday.
Starting in July, rising juniors and seniors will have the opportunity to participate in the Summer R.I.S.E program.
This new program will allow students to interact with working professional for three weeks in July to explore careers and professional training.
“We want to excite our young people so they that they know that there is a job, a career, a life here in Montgomery County,” William Jawando, director of Summer R.I.S.E.
Fields that students can explore include healthcare, business administration and communications, just to name a few.
Participants will receive a $300 stipend upon the completion of their participation in the program.
“It’s not just about the money but it’s about the work experience,” Montgomery County Councilmember Craig Rice said. “It’s going to give folks a chance, that don’t have one right now, […] a chance to work before they go off to college.”
Pre-program professional training will be required before placement which includes training on conflict resolution, dressing for the work place, proper email etiquette.
