New Police Station Wins Award
The city of Rockville’s project to preserve and rehabilitate the historic 1939 Post Office building as the new headquarters of the city Police Department has been recognized with a preservation award by Montgomery Preservation, Inc.
The Montgomery County Award for Historic Preservation for the Adaption and Reuse of a historic resource was awarded to the City this month. It is one of several preservation awards that the nonprofit has given in 2012, which honor excellence in restoration, rehabilitation, reuse, compatible additions, and heritage education projects throughout the county. The awards have been presented annually by the organization since 1986.
Rockville’s historic Post Office building operated as a post office from 1939 to 2006. For more information on its transformation to a new City police headquarters, visit the City’s website.
