New Living History Speaker Series

The Gaithersburg Community Museum introduces a new speaker series Tuesday Topics, featuring local historians, authors and re-enactors on August 13 at the Community Museum Plaza, 9 South Summit Avenue, Gaithersburg. Living History presenter Patrick Lacefield will present Stories and Songs from the Blue and the Grey at the Community Museum Plaza from 7 to 8:30 p.m. The cost is $5 per person.

“Stories and Songs from the Blue and the Grey with Living History presenter Patrick Lacefield”

Patrick Lacefield blends oral history with period music, offering perspectives from both the Union and the Confederacy, referencing the diverse views and allegiances expressed by Gaithersburg residents during the Civil War. This outdoor presentation will include a small “campfire.”

October 8 – Community Museum, 9 South Summit Avenue
“In Search of Maryland Ghosts: Montgomery County by Authors Karen Yaffe Lottes and Dorothy Pugh”
With a book that was recently highlighted at the 2013 Gaithersburg Book Festival, authors Karen Yaffe Lottes and Dorthy Pugh will discuss the process of writing, highlight the oral tradition of ghost-based folklore in Gaithersburg, and reveal stories not included in the book. The authors will be available for questions and answers and book signings.

December 10 – Kentlands Mansion, 320 Kent Square Road
“A Civil War Christmas at Home with Living History presenter Mary Lou Luff”
Mary Lou Luff portrays the mother of a Civil War era doctor, highlighting food and holiday customs of the day as practiced in the Gaithersburg/Rockville areas. Examples of period gifts will be on display.
