New Elementary School Slated for Clarksburg Village

A new elementary school is recommended for the Clarksburg Village community to handle the large influx of new students in that area of the county.

Superintendent Joshua Starr released his recommendation Wednesday for a site in Clarksburg to meet that need. His recommendation is in line with a site selection advisory committee who suggested the Clarksburg Village area on the south side of Snowden Farm Parkway between Sweetspire Drive and Newcut Road. This is one of two sites that were set aside as a school site in Clarksburg Village as part of the Clarksburg master plan, according to MCPS.

Since 2007, elementary school enrollment in the Clarksburg cluster has grown by more than 1,500 students and that growth is expected to continue in the years to come, according to Montgomery County Public Schools. Even with the opening of Wilson Wims Elementary School in Clarksburg this school year, MCPS expects to have large elementary school space deficits by 2020-2021.

Dr. Starr agreed with the committee’s recommendation based on the amount of new housing already under construction in and around Clarksburg Village and the fact that schools in this area are projected to exceed their capacity.

At this time, the new Clarksburg elementary school does not have an opening date or an official name.
