New Details in Death of Wheaton KFC Employee

The man accused of killing a KFC coworker has been denied bail, according to online court records.

Elmer Campos-Martinez, 47, of Cove Lane, Rockville, faces a second-degree murder charge in the death of Dania Mendez de Guerra, 21, of Amherst Avenue, Wheaton, according to the records.

He also has an Immigration and Customs Enforcement detainer, court spokesman Ramon Korionoff said.

Campos-Martinez and de Guerra both worked at the KFC restaurant on University Boulevard West, a Montgomery County police statement says. The two were having an affair, according to police.

Campos-Martinez waited for de Guerra to get off work about 11:45 p.m. Nov. 5 and the two got into an argument, police said. Campos-Martinez told investigators that he punched the victim three times and pushed her to the ground where she hit her head, police said.

The next day, her husband reported her missing, police said.

On Nov. 10, her body was found behind a business at University Boulevard West and Elkin Street, police said. The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Baltimore ruled the death as a homicide, police said. Coroners said de Guerra suffered multiple blunt force trauma and asphyxia, police said.

Court records say de Guerra had defensive wounds on her hands.

When her body was found, de Guerra’s cell phone and purse were missing.
