The National Weather Service issued a flash flood watch until 7 p.m. for Montgomery County, including the communities of Germantown, Damascus, Bethesda, Rockville, Gaithersburg and Silver Spring.

The NWS is forecasting multiple rounds of rainfall over the area with the potential for torrential rain. Thunderstorms expected later this morning into the afternoon and early evening. Rainfall rates of 1 to 3 inches are expected in the strongest storms, according to the weather service.

A flash flood watch means that conditions may develop that lead
to flash flooding. Flash flooding is a very dangerous situation.

The NWS encourages people to monitor forecasts and be prepared to take action should flash flood warnings are issued.
