Muslim and Non-Muslim Indian Communities Talk County Priorities with Elected Officials in North Potomac (VIDEO)
Building bridges instead of walls, was the common theme articulated at a recent meeting in North Potomac between Congressman John Delaney (D-Md), and some members of the Muslim and non-Muslim communities.
Delaney is seeking reelection to his 6th District seat.
The event entitled, “ A Conversation with Congressman John Delaney,” held on Oct. 16, offered various groups the chance talk with state and local-elected officials about priorities.
“With the Indonesian-American community, the Muslim-American community, the Iranian community and the Pakistani-American community here, that’s a sign that we’re all gathering together to connect with one another to build those bridges,” said Nadia Syahmaliana, vice president of the Montgomery County Muslim Democratic Club.
Organizers say it’s the first time that Muslims and Indians of non-Muslim heritage have partnered exclusively for a political event in Montgomery County.
“These communities do so much for our larger community,” said Congressman Delaney. “When you go out to these communities, you’re not just talking about politics. You’re hearing about what they’re doing to help people.”
