Motorists Urged To Slow Down After Several Speeding-Related Crashes

Despite a lot less vehicles on the roads lately, the number of crashes have gone up. Authorities attribute the uptick to speeding.

As a result, Maryland State Police troopers are stepping up enforcement measures on speeding motorists during the COVID-19 pandemic.

For the past few days, MSP troopers have issued hundreds of citations and warnings to aggressive drivers. According to authorities, more than two dozen troopers have been patrolling the Capital Beltway near Greentree Road and I-270. They say the goal is to reduce motor vehicle crashes while enforcing the speed limit.

Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services spokesperson Pete Piringer says there have been a significant number of accidents that involve single vehicles and tractor trailers.

MyMCMedia spoke with Piringer about the growing problem.
