More Than Half of Deaths in Montgomery County and Maryland Associated with Senior Living Facilities

Montgomery County COVID-19 Statistics

Wednesday morning the Maryland Department of Health reported 10,467 cases of COVID-19 in Montgomery County, which is an increase of 176 cases from the 10,291 reported Tuesday.

According to the health department, 535 county residents have died from COVID-19. This is an increase of four deaths since Tuesday. The number of probable deaths is 37.

Wednesday morning the health department released updated information on senior living facilities which include nursing homes, assisted living facilities and group homes. There have been 2,201 confirmed cases and 353 deaths associated with senior living facilities. This includes 725 staff cases and 7 deaths; and 1,476 resident cases and 346 deaths. Since the May 20 report, cases have increased by 5% and deaths by 3%.

Confirmed cases associated with senior living facilities account for 21% of the County cases, while deaths account for 65%.

 

 

Maryland COVID-19 Statistics

As of Wednesday morning, there were 48,423 confirmed cases throughout the state. That is an increase of 736 cases in the last 24 hours. There were 2,270 deaths, an increase of 53.

In Maryland, 8,281 people have been hospitalized since the outbreak of COVID-19.

Currently, 1,338 Marylanders are hospitalized with COVID-19, which is 23 more than Tuesday. Of the currently hospitalized patients, 520 are in intensive care. This is the same number of patients in ICU beds as on Tuesday.

A total of 14,217 cases and 941 deaths involve the state’s African American community. This is 20 additional deaths since Tuesday.

Today the health department released updated information on senior living facilities, including nursing homes, assisted living facilities and group homes.  There have been 2,921 confirmed staff cases and 14 deaths; 6,394 confirmed resident cases and 1,276 deaths throughout the state. The 1,290 deaths associated with senior living facilities make up 57% of the COVID-19 deaths in Maryland.
