More Than 50 People Displaced After Gaithersburg Fire

Several families were displaced after a fire left more than 50 adults, children, and pets without homes in Gaithersburg on Sunday.

According to Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service (MCFRS) Spokesman Pete Piringer, the fire took place on the 100 block of Duvall Lane. The fire was electrical in nature and began on the second floor. It then spread to the third floor of the four-story apartment complex.

14 units between the two floors were affected and the department estimates the property damage to be around $1.75 million.

MCFRS firefighters responded to the fire around 4:30 p.m. on Sunday and it was not contained until 6:25 p.m.

There were no injuries during the incident but crews rescued one resident on the third floor using an aerial ladder. Volunteers of the National Capital & Greater Chesapeake Region’s Red Cross were also on the scene assisting residents.
