Montgomery’s COVID-19 Positivity Rate Continues Dropping; Maryland Cases Near 60,000

Montgomery County COVID-19 Statistics

Wednesday morning the Maryland Department of Health reported 13,124 cases of COVID-19 in Montgomery County, which is a 1.2% increase from the 12,968 cases reported Tuesday.

Since the first case in March, 633 county residents have died from COVID-19. This is an increase of five deaths since Tuesday, according to the health department. The number of probable deaths is 39.

Montgomery County has seen more deaths due to COVID-19 than any other jurisdiction in the state. Prince George’s has lost 590 residents, the second-highest number in the state.

The positivity rate of 9.53%, reported Wednesday by the state health department, is the third-highest in the state, behind Prince George’s at 11.44% and Kent at 9.88%.  The state calculates the positivity rate using the average rate for seven days. Montgomery County on Tuesday reported a positivity rate of 9.6% based on a rolling three-day average.

Maryland COVID-19 Statistics

As of Wednesday morning, there were 59,465 confirmed cases throughout the state. That is a 0.95% increase of cases in the last 24 hours. COVID-19 has claimed the lives of 2,719 Marylanders, 33 in the last 24 hours.

Currently, 955 Marylanders are hospitalized with COVID-19, which is 15 fewer than Tuesday. Of those patients, 379 are in intensive care, which is a decrease of seven since Tuesday.

There are fewer than one thousand Marylanders hospitalized with COVID-19 for the third day since April 9.

The state’s positivity rate has risen slightly, currently, it is 7.24%, which is a 0.09% increase since Tuesday.

A total of 17,214 cases and 1,123 deaths involve the state’s African American community. This is 8 additional deaths since Tuesday.
