A Big Day For Public Safety in Montgomery County (PHOTOS & VIDEO)

Montgomery County officials kicked off construction for its new Public Safety Training Academy on Feb. 11. The groundbreaking ceremony for the state- of-the-art facility included many county officials, police, and firefighters.

“It’s a wonderful opportunity. We ordered this day special for you” said David Dise, director of the of the Department of General Services.

According to a county news release, the training facility will include an academic building, fire residential training building, canine training building, multi-use cityscape structure training area and other training spaces.

“It will provide us the training space to focus on what we do today and to focus on what we can get into tomorrow,” said acting Fire Chief Scott Goldstein.

Cost is estimated to be $69 million and construction is anticipated to be completed in 2016.

“This is a big day for public safety in Montgomery County. If you ask any police chief, any fire chief, ‘what’s the most important foundation for providing the best service for the public?’ they will tell you ‘training, training,'” said Montgomery County Police Thomas Manger.
