September 1:  Senior Sneaker

Seniors who cannot get to the gym by 3 pm, Montgomery County Recreation has extended the Sneakers hours to all day. If the center of your choice is open, the Rec Senior Sneaker Age 55+ 1 Year pass will work starting today.  This special annual pass is for boomers and seniors age 55 or older. It is good for access to any Community Center Exercise Room and Open Gym during the Center’s normally scheduled hours. Cost $50 per year. Bring your imagination and leave self judgement at the door. Local/regional artist Carol Clatterbuck assists you in exploring the world of painting through various ideas using acrylics, paper, ink or others in both traditional and creative ways. 7 pm-11 am Join us with local camping leaders for a MINI Jamboree. Your first Overnight Camp Out or a refresher for veteran campers. Enjoy lunch, learn knot tying, and tent pitching, “edible” fire building, pie tin fires and fire safety, box oven and Dutch oven cooking, cleanup, music by the fire, play glow in the dark activities. Wake up to a fireside breakfast, followed by a nature walk and letter-boxing. Checklist for supplies, health form and code of conduct required. This is a recreation basketball league for 8^th, 9^th, and 10th grade girls and boys, emphasizing in skill development, fundamental strategy, sportsmanship and fun of a 6 week league, no playoffs. All games will be played on Saturday starting September 10 through October 15, 2016. Participants will learn the ABC’s of basketball. Bring you’re A game and B ready to C MoCo’s best basketball. September 19: Last Day to Submit Thanksgiving Parade Application

Register to be a part of the Montgomery County Thanksgiving Parade. The Montgomery County Thanksgiving Parade, taking place on Saturday, November 19 at 10 am in downtown Silver Spring, will feature a line-up of over 100 parade units including glittering floats, giant inflatables, a wide variety of marching bands; beauty queens; clowns; fire engines; and performing dog and rescue animal groups. To be a part of this televised parade your group should submit an application by the September 19, 2016 deadline.
