Montgomery, Maryland Positivity Rates Are Lowest Since Beginning of Pandemic

Montgomery County COVID-19 Statistics for May 25

The Maryland Department of Health reported 16 new COVID-19 cases in Montgomery County Tuesday morning. The county’s cumulative case count is 70,728.

There were no new coronavirus-related fatalities in the county Tuesday, so the death toll remains at 1,497.

Monday, 0.92% of the COVID-19 tests done were positive. Compared to Sunday’s rate of 1.12%, this is a decrease of 0.1 The county’s positivity rate is the lowest in the state and is the lowest since the pandemic began in March 2020.

Montgomery County Department of Health and Human Services clinics are currently vaccinating residents ages 12 and older. County residents may register for an appointment at any of the county-run clinics or the Germantown mass vaccination site online.

According to Montgomery County health officials, 50.6% of the county’s residents are fully vaccinated for COVID-19; 61.4% have received their first dose of either the Pfizer or Moderna two-dose vaccine. County residents vaccinated outside Maryland are not included in these figures.

Montgomery County leads the state in total COVID-19 related fatalities (1,497 deaths) but not in total cases. Prince George’s County has 1,466 fatalities and the most coronavirus cases in the state with 84,838 cases. Baltimore County has the second-highest number of fatalities with 1,496 and the third-largest number of cases with 65,459.

Somerset County on the Eastern Shore has the highest cases per capita at 101.7 cases per 1,000 residents. Allegany County in the western region of the state has the second-highest cases per capita at 99.1 cases per 1,000 residents.

Tuesday, the state recorded 160 new infections, bringing the state’s cumulative case count to 458,680.

442 patients are hospitalized with COVID-19 across the state, which is the lowest number since October of last year.

Maryland recorded seven new coronavirus-related fatalities Tuesday bringing the death toll to 8,838.

The state reported 1.98% of the COVID-19 tests from Monday were positive. This is a decrease of 0.06 from Sunday’s rate of 2.04% and is the lowest positivity rate since the pandemic began in March of last year.

All Marylanders ages 12 and older are eligible for a COVID-19 vaccine at the state's mass vaccination sites. Appointments are available online at covidvax.maryland.gov or by calling the state's COVID-19 vaccination support center at 1-865-MC-GOVAX. All of the state's mass vaccination sites are accepting walkups.

According to the Maryland Department of Health, 42.4% of the state's residents have received two doses of either the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine; and 3.8% have received the single-dose Johnson and Johnson vaccine.
