Montgomery COVID-19 Positivity Rate Nears 4%, Maryland Rate and Hospitalizations on the Rise
Montgomery County COVID-19 Statistics
Wednesday morning the Maryland Department of Health reported 17,305 cumulative cases of COVID-19 in Montgomery County, which is an increase of 75 from the 17,230 cases reported Tuesday.
Since the first case in March, 748 county residents have died from COVID-19. No new deaths have been reported since Sunday. More Montgomery County residents have died due to COVID-19 than any other jurisdiction in the state. Prince George’s has lost 710 residents, the second-highest number.
The positivity rate of 3.95% reported Wednesday is an increase of 0.29% since Tuesday. This is the 15th straight day the rate remained below 4% in the county.
According to the health department, 29 senior living facilities in Montgomery County report at least one confirmed case of COVID-19 at this time.
Maryland COVID-19 Statistics
As of Wednesday morning, there have been 86,285 confirmed cases throughout the state. That is an increase of 761 cases in the last 24 hours. Montgomery County makes up only 10% of the new cases statewide, down from a high of over 30% in May. COVID-19 has claimed the lives of 3,347 Marylanders, 20 since Tuesday.
Currently, 571 Marylanders are hospitalized with COVID-19, which is 27 more than Tuesday. Statewide hospitalizations had risen 48% since July 13 when 386 patients were hospitalized. Of the patients currently in the hospital, 145 are in intensive care, which is five less than Tuesday.
The health department reported a testing positivity rate of 4.77% Wednesday, which is an increase of 0.23% from Monday’s rate of 4.54%. The rate has remained below 5% for more than three weeks since June 26.
Statewide, a total of 26,189 cases and 1,365 deaths involve the state’s African American community.
Maryland reports the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases and deaths that have occurred in senior living facilities weekly on Wednesday mornings. Senior living facilities include nursing homes, assisted living facilities and group homes.
The health department reports there have been 13,858 cases and 2,033 deaths associated with senior living facilities throughout the state. The number of cases increased by 343 since the July 22 report, deaths by 32.
According to the health department, there are currently 184 facilities with at least one confirmed case of COVID-19. Twenty-nine of these facilities are located in Montgomery County.
