Montgomery County’s COVID-19 Positivity Rate Falls Below 4%, Maryland’s Rate 4.26%

Wednesday morning the Maryland Department of Health reported 15,986 cases of COVID-19 in Montgomery County, which is an increase of 103 from the 15,883 cases reported Tuesday.
Since the first case in March, 725 county residents have died from COVID-19. This is an increase of one since Tuesday. More Montgomery County residents have died due to COVID-19 than any other jurisdiction in the state. Prince George’s has lost 694 residents, the second-highest number.
The positivity rate of 3.99% reported Wednesday is a decrease of 0.24% since Tuesday. This is the first day the rate dropped below 4% and the seventh day the rate has remained below 5%.
Montgomery County currently has the ninth-highest rate in the state, behind Caroline (4.36%), Kent (5.13%), Baltimore (5.14%), Charles (5.28%), Queen Anne’s (5.97%), Baltimore City (6.04%), Prince George’s (6.59%) and Talbot (8.69%).
Maryland COVID-19 Statistics
As of Wednesday morning, there have been 75,016 confirmed cases throughout the state. That is an increase of 756 in the last 24 hours. COVID-19 has claimed the lives of 3,209 Marylanders, seven since Tuesday.
Currently, 447 Marylanders are hospitalized with COVID-19, which is 32 more than Tuesday. This is the largest daily increase in hospitalizations since May 26. Of the 447 patients currently hospitalized, 129 are in intensive care, which is 11 more than Tuesday.
The health department reported a testing positivity rate of 4.26% Wednesday. This is a decrease of 0.38% from Tuesday’s rate of 4.64%. The rate has remained below 5% since June 25th.
Statewide, a total of 21,784 cases and 1,305 deaths involve the state’s African American community.
Maryland reports the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases and deaths that have occurred in senior living facilities weekly on Wednesday mornings.
The health department reports there have been 13,167 cases and 1,978 deaths associated with senior living facilities throughout the state. The number of cases increased by 233 since July 8, deaths by 17.
