Montgomery County Sports Hall of Fame Announces 2021 Inductees

The Montgomery County Sports Hall of Fame (MCSHF) announced on Sunday that it will be inducting six athletes into the class of 2021.

The list of athletes includes:

  • NFL Fullback Richie Anderson — Sherwood High School
  • Former PGA Tour Commissioner Deane Beman — Bethesda-Chevy Chase High School
  • Lacrosse Coach and Rugby Player Rob Bordley — Landon School
  • Basketball Player and College Coach Charlene Thomas-Swinson — Montgomery Blair High School
  • Maryland Terp Great and NBA Guard Greivis Vasquez — Montrose Christian School
  • NFL Pro Bowl Linebacker Mike Curtis — Richard Montgomery High School

MNCSHF was established in 2018 to honor and recognize “individuals, teams, coaches, managers, organizations, and supporters who merit recognition and distinction for their outstanding contributions through inspiring achievements and leadership in sports and athletic endeavors in Montgomery County, Maryland and beyond,” according to the organization’s website.

The nonprofit organization held its first induction ceremony in 2019, featuring Dominique Dawes, Walter Johnson, Katie Ledecky, Bob Milloy, Bruce Murray and Shawn Springs. The class of 2020 included Tom Brown, Johnny Holliday, Jeri Ingram, Roy Lester, Curtis Pride and Amy Wood.

“These men and women have brought recognition and honor to our community in their respective fields,” MCSHF Board Chair Trish Heffelfinger said. “It is a stellar group and the induction ceremony will be one fabulous evening. And yes, at this time we are planning an in-person event in line with county COVID-19 guidelines.”

The third-annual induction ceremony will be held on Sunday, Oct. 17. The ceremony will be held in-person if health conditions permit.

More information about each of the inductees can be found online.
