Montgomery County Recreation Cancels Summer Camps

Montgomery County Recreation announced on Friday that late-summer modified camps are canceled.

Officials with the department say they are working to process refunds. All summer camp payment plans have also been canceled.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, there’s a critical need for health care providers in the community for other vital services. According to a press release, MoCo Rec was unable to secure nursing providers, which are required to offer summer camps to the public.

“Montgomery County Recreation has worked tirelessly to prepare, plan and deliver a modified summer camp program,” said Montgomery County Recreation Director Robin Riley. “We regret that we were unable to meet the requirements to open our programs. However, as MoCo Rec staff does so well, we are quickly transitioning, and we are looking into providing alternative programs and activities to the Montgomery County community in the near future.”

Virtual summer programs and activities through Rec Room continue to be available, according to MoCo Rec officials. Updates concerning future summer camp offerings will be provided as soon as they are available.
