August 1: Food, Fun & Fitness
Our Food, Fun & Fitness free lunch and activities program runs on weekdays until August 4, 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Students under age 18 get a healthy lunch and elementary age children enjoy fun recreation department-guided activities and physical fitness. Locations are:
• Clopper Mill Elementary School, Germantown, rising 1st- to 6th-graders
• Fox Chapel Elementary School, Germantown, rising 2nd- to 6th-graders
• Germantown Library, rising 1st- to 6th-graders

A Tuscan salad makes use of fava and cranberry beans paired with large shrimp to create harmonious favors, colors and textures. Next, we will prepare a Roman spinach pasta dish with fresh mushroom tomato sauce. Adding savory roasted turkey meatballs to the plate will satisfy omnivorous diners. As a finishing touch, we will enjoy baked stuffed peaches. This class features take-home recipes as well as plenty to eat, so bring your appetite. $55. 18 and up. August 6: First Sunday Arts & Crafts Festival

Explore the First Sunday Arts Festival of Annapolis where a portion of historic West Street and beyond is transformed into a fun festival of live music, dance, arts and crafts. It’s the perfect place to enjoy an afternoon outdoors surrounded by talented performers, musicians, and over 100 craft booths. Select restaurants will turn into outdoor cafes, perfect to watch the fun and people go by. Experience street festivals, an art market, an entertainment venue and an arts and crafts fair all rolled into one. Be entertained with live music, dance, theater, and street performers. The VIP committee is asking for your help in identifying children who would benefit from this program. To be selected as a VIP, the child must be a resident of Montgomery County between the ages of 5 and 14, and must have a disability or a life-threatening illness. The family must be able to attend the fair on Monday, August 14, as honored guests. August 14: Fall Basketball League Registration Opens

For grades 8 to 10, girls and boys divisions. League starts September 9 to October 14, Saturdays only. Team fee is $325. The locations for fall basketball 8th, 9th and 10th grade games will be Blair HS, Churchill HS, Northwest HS, and White Oak Community Recreation Center. This is a Recreation basketball league for high school youth emphasizing skill development, sportsmanship and fun! Separate leagues for boys and girls for each grade.
